No, if you register more works than you eventually submit, unfortunately no refunds will be offered.
Yes, but you must let us know prior to handing in your works, at least two days before you actually submit your work. Additional entry fees should be paid by credit or debit card over the phone to the Exhibition Organisers. A small administration fee of £1 per transaction will be added for the payment of additional entry fees by credit or debit card.
No, only works selected for the exhibition and the national tour will be insured once the selection has taken place. Artists are therefore advised to take out their own insurance.
The maximum size of works accepted for submission is 2m x 2.5m, including frame.
No, we do not specify what media work should be in. The nature of the exhibition is to generate debate about contemporary drawing practice and therefore work in any media is eligible for entry, if the artist considers it as drawing. Whilst debate about contemporary drawing practice is encouraged, the decision of the Selection Panel is final and binding.
If work is unframed it should be packaged appropriately for transportation and storage.
Yes. If entering works in this media, please provide a labeled CD or DVD, detailing the format of the application the work is presented in as well as all the other details required on the work labels.
Our conditions of entry state that work should be framed and this ruling has developed as a measure to ensure that the delicate surfaces of the submitted drawings are protected in the normal course of handling. But, if there is a genuine aesthetic reason for the work to remain unframed, we will accept the entry but subject to the following conditions:
i) the absence of glass and mouldings render the work more vulnerable to damage and we therefore ask artists submitting unframed works to provide a packing case or equivalent in which the work can be safely stored until it is displayed for the judges. Bubble wrap is insufficient, it is not rigid enough to protect the surface of your work and our policy is to remove all wrapping upon delivery to London, apart from those pieces that are submitted in a well made, easily accessible and well labeled packing case. Please note that unprotected, unframed paper is subject to wear and tear in the normal course of handling and if works;
ii) that the artist fully accepts that if they enter work outside of the Conditions of Entry, they do so at their own risk, and the Jerwood Drawing Prize can not accept any liability for any damage or general wear or tear that may occur in the normal course of handling.
Any well-made, durable wooden frames are acceptable. These types of frames ensure that the surface of your work is protected, and are robust enough to withstand transportation. Please note that some frame finishes (eg. gesso, lacquer, etc) are fragile and are not durable for handling purposes. If you insist on presenting your work in these types of frames, we strongly recommend you wrap the frame edges in stretch wrap film (most framers these days will cover new frames in this cling film like material, alternatively, large stationery or packaging supply companies sell this material along with dispensers.) Perspex frames should be submitted in a packing case for additional protection.
No. We ask for composite works to be presented in a single frame to ensure that the selection panel is presented with the work in its entirety.
Both these types of frames can cause damage to other works and are dangerous to handle. Clip frames, in particular, break easily and can cause injury to our technical team.
All metal projections can damage other work whilst in storage, and we insist that you remove them as a matter of respect for other people’s work.
Yes, but if you have already framed your work and do not want to remove the frame, or you do not wish to sign and date the front of your work because it interferes with the image, please sign and date the back of the frame.
As a student you are eligible for both the main prizes and the student awards.
Yes.
Yes, but as the Collection Centres are only open on specific dates, you must arrange for a representative to deliver/collect your work for you when the centres are open. This can be a family member, a friend, an agent, or a courier. Please do ensure that persons collecting work for you are in possession of your Submissiom receipt, and also make them aware of the fact that unless you have submitted the work in a specific crate and have indicated clearly that this packaging should be kept, that your work will not be wrapped for collection.
No, only work made since January 2010 is eligible for entry.
No, only artists resident or domiciled in the United Kingdom are eligible for entry.
For the third year we are using an on-line registration process to reduce our paper usage and speed up the application process. This is now the principle means of application to the Jerwood Drawing Prize. However, if you are unable to process an application online, please contact the Exhibition Organisers well in advance of the application deadline for information about how to submit an application.
Please see the ‘Submissions & Collections Timetable’ PDF in the Downloads/Links [make this a link] section of this website. Please note, Collection Centres will only take your work on the dates and times specified.
All artists will be informed by email of the Selection Panel's decision by Friday 8 July 2011. The email will be from: jdp@parkerharris.co.uk. In addition, the names of those artists selected for exhibition will also appear on the Jerwood Visual Arts website around this time: www.parkerharris.co.uk/competition/jerwood-drawing. If email notification has not been received by Friday 8 July 2011, or your name does not appear on the list of selected artists, your work has not been selected and will therefore need to be collected. Works not collected on the specified dates detailed in the 'Submissions & Collections Timetable' will be liable for storage charges.
If your work is selected you will be asked to provide a full curriculum vitae, a brief biography (maximum 150 words), and a statement about each piece of work selected (maximum 150 words). This information will be required by Friday 5 August 2011 to ensure copy can be prepared for insertion in the catalogue.
No, works will not be soft wrapped for collection following the selection process, unless specific travel frames or cases are provided. Regional carriers use boxes and blankets to protect the work during transit.
