Jerwood Painting Fellowhsips
A new initiative from Jerwood Visual Arts.
Jerwood Painting Fellowships are a key strand of the Jerwood Visual Arts programme, a major initiative of the Jerwood Charitable Foundation designed to
promote and celebrate the work of emerging artists across artistic disciplines.
Created to identify and support three outstanding painters, the purpose of the Fellowships is to offer structured opportunities for artists to develop in two distinctive areas: studio practice and professional development.
Jerwood Painting Fellowships are an open submission opportunity. Three artists will become Jerwood Painting Fellows. Each will receive a bursary of £10,000, will
be assigned a mentor for a six month period and will be expected to work towards an exhibition within the Jerwood Visual Arts programme at Jerwood Space, London and on tour.

The Mentoring Period and Exhibition
Between October 2010 and April 2011 mentors will engage with the Jerwood Painting Fellows both in critical review of their work and working practice and by aiding their professional development through involvement with the wider contemporary art community. This programme of support will be devised to suit the needs of each Fellow.
During this period Fellows will be required to work towards an exhibition of new work within the Jerwood Visual Arts programme from 11 May - 26 June 2011 at Jerwood Space, London. The mentors will curate the exhibition.
Following the exhibition at Jerwood Space, the exhibition will tour within the UK.

Selection process
A shortlist of artists will be interviewed by the mentors on 7 October 2010 at Jerwood Space, London. The mentors will be looking for artists whose practice will benefit most from the opportunities offered. It is essential that the artists can commit to the mentoring period between October 2010 and April 2011 and this will be rigorously investigated at interview stage. Shortlisted artists will be required to bring one piece of work to be viewed at interview. Reasonable expenses for transporting work will be reimbursed subject to prior approval.
