The Fellowship

Three outstanding painters will each be awarded a bursary of £10,000 and one year of critical and professional development support from mentors. During the Fellowship year each artist will work towards a body of new work, which will be exhibited in a group show as part of the JVA programme at Jerwood Space, London in March 2013, before touring within the UK.

The purpose of the Fellowships is to offer structured opportunities for artists to develop in two distinctive areas: studio practice and professional development.

Mentoring period and exhibition

Between March 2012 and February 2013 mentors will engage with the Jerwood Painting Fellows both in critical review of their work and working practice. This programme of support will be devised to suit the individual needs of each Fellow.

During this period Fellows will work towards a group show of new work within the Jerwood Visual Arts programme in March 2013. The mentors will curate the exhibition.

Following the exhibition at Jerwood Space, the exhibition will tour within the UK.

A shortlist of artists will be interviewed by the mentors on 16 February 2012 at Jerwood Space, London. The mentors will be looking for artists whose practice will benefit most from the opportunities offered. It is essential that the artists can commit to the mentoring period between March 2012 and February 2013 and this will be rigorously investigated at interview stage.

Shortlisted artists will be required to bring one piece of work to be viewed at interview. Reasonable expenses for transporting work will be reimbursed subject to prior approval.
